About MeMy name is Deanna Kearns, and I am the mother of 3 children. My journey of becoming a birth doula began in 2000 with the birth of my son. After having the support of a doula at my first birth, I was compelled to learn more of how this type of support empowered me to have an amazing birth experience.
I started my studies with DONA (Doulas of North America) in 2003, and currently I am a certified Birth Doula with CBI (Childbirth International). In addition, I am also a certified instructor for pre-natal and post-natal yoga with babies and yoga for active birth instructor. I am also a certified HypnoBirthing practitioner. |
My approach to supporting births |
I encourage women to make informed choices and ask questions of their care providers, partners/husbands and most of all themselves. Keeping the environment non-judgemental, I support women in the choices they make, as there truly is no right or wrong way to birth.
Using this informed choice versus informed consent model, I hope to open them up to finding their own voice, advocating for themselves and empowering themselves. I encourage women to take the time to really find out what is important to them and what feels right for them. Childbirth and pregnancy is a profound rite of passage. Now after my babies have grown up a bit, it is such an amazing privilege to share this with my mothers and share all the things I have learned about our amazing bodies, the support of women, being a Doula and most of all being a mother. |
